When you “subtract” something, you are removing a number from another number. It is the opposite of the word “add”.

というわけで、
足し算は　addition
引き算は　subtraction

３足す２は、５　という場合は
Three and two make five
Three plus two is five

８引く２は、６　という場合は

Two from eight is six.
Eight minus two equals six.
If you subtract two from eight, you get six.

そのほか、
割り算は　division
掛け算は　multiplication
です。
