Pick up というのは、いろんなモノを対象に出来る便利な言葉です。

この日、コミュニケーターはこんな風にアドバイスを書いています。

the verb 'pick up' can be used for people, animals or objects.
Remember 'pick up the mess', 'pick up the cat', 'pick up the dry cleaning ' or 'pick up the newspaper'.
An example as we discussed would be "Would you mind picking the newspaper up on your way to work tomorrow morning?"
Try using that in your everyday conversation!

「モノ」を拾うだけでなく、人を車などで迎えに行くときも、”pick up” が使えるのは、
まさに日本語の「拾う」と同じ感覚ですね！

因みに、車で人をpick up に行った時など、
“Hop in!”

と言うと「車に乗りなよ！」という意味になります。

降りる場合は、　hop out です。
